Cabo San Lucas
The photo below is of the sunrise as we came into the town. I was last here in the early 2000’s. Boy has this place changed! It’s no longer a sleepy fishing village. We had breakfast in the room before meeting in the theater to group up for the tender ride to the docks. Our group was one of the first to leave. We got on the tender and had to wait while others were loaded. It was a bit choppy so we were rocking and rollin’. I had to watch the horizon to keep from getting seasick-even with my pressure band on.Soon we were off on our 10 minute ride into the dock. Then we waited in another line until we could walk over to our boat for the whale watch. Once there we had to remove our shoes before getting on the boat. We were seated on a platform at the front of the boat. Not very comfortable but we had a great view of Sea Of Cortez ahead of us. First we went out to the arch, the rock formation that is the symbol of Cabo. I had gotten a better photo on the way in to port earlier. Then we were off on a hunt to find whales-and we did. First we saw a mom and calf cruising along. Then we went to another area and hit paydirt. There were 2 adults and a baby practicing their jumps. They would skyhook, come up to look at us, and then the fun began. They were breaching alone and in tandem. We were in a pretty big boat so we had to stay pretty far away but it was still amazing. The sound they made when they hit the water was like breaking the sound barrier booms. My photos aren’t very good because of the distance but I cropped a couple to put in here.
We went back to port, claimed our shoes and were off to our next excursion. We took a bus to the village of San Jose del Cabo. It’s on the eastern end of the bottom of the peninsula. It’s much quieter than Cabo. We went to the main plaza where we had an hour to explore. Bunny and I explored right to a restaurant where we had a margarita and tacos. We thoroughly enjoyed our hour!! Back on the bus to return to the docks. We were one of the last tenders to return to the ship. We were tired but happy campers. We came back to the room to recoup, and made a couple of calls since I can call free from Mexico. Then to a light dinner in the buffet. The entertainment this evening was a show by our cruise director. She is a very talented woman. Now to bed. Two more days at sea coming up.
