Elephants!
Today we were in Koh Samui, Thailand. It is on the island of Nathan. It was a hot and steamy day. We boarded mini vans with 8 passengers each and drove to the Samui Elephant Kingdom about 20 minutes away from the pier. It is a sanctuary where the animals live out their lives doing what they want. They have to eat between 300-500 pounds of food per day. We had a talk about the grasses they are mostly fed, plus the bananas and sugar cane they are given. We were given a basket with food for the elephants. We walked along a raised walkway that was above the elephants’ heads. They could reach their trunks up to us to get the food. They all knew it was snack time when they saw us coming. They rushed to the walkway and had their trunks at the ready. Our guide took pictures of us feeding them. We gave them the sweet foods first. They would have thrown the grass down and not eaten it because they knew we also had the good stuff. When the trunk was up you just put the banana or sugar cane across it and they would grab it and put it in their mouth. We fed the females. There were 2 males w
