Dover, England

‘We got up early to see the white cliffs of Dover. They are pretty spectacular. We entered the breakwater, turned around and backed into the berth. It amazes me that they can maneuver this huge ship so well. We cancelled our tour and I just went into town on the shuttle with Betty and Rudy . Bunny went to the castle with Beryl and Bent. Betty and I found luggage tags in a dollar store, our big purchase of the day. We walked down the main shopping street. We stopped for a coffee, hot chocolate for me. We walked a bit more and Rudy found a pub for lunch. It was on the water so we took a taxi to Collin’s Yard. It was a nice pub with tables outside. It was a bit cool so we ate inside. I had bangers(sausages) and mash, mashed potatoes. They were delicious. Rudy had fish and chips, which he said was very good. We worked out a deal with the taxi driver to come back for us and take us around the town a bit. He came back and took us to a couple viewpoints where we could take pictures of the castle. Sorry I don’t know the name of the castle. It was used during World War II. There are caves and bunkers under it which were used.
‘Then he took us to an overlook where we could see the whole harbor with the ship and the castle. We walked down a path along the cliff and saw three gun emplacements from the war. They are abandoned now. Can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of one! After that he took us back to the ship.
‘I spent the rest of the afternoon repacking my big suitcase so I could get more in it. I still have too much stuff to cram in somewhere.
‘Today we are moored in the town of Greenwich in the Thames River. We started up the river and had to go through some low towers that open and close to keep the city of London from flooding. There were a lot of people outside watching us go through there. We had a tugboat pulling us to keep us in the right alignment to get through.
‘Once we were moored, we were able to go ashore. They have big ferries here called Uber Boats. That was our shuttle.. it was only 3 minutes to the shore. We had a city tour on foot. It didn’t start until 4:30. I was tired before we even started. We walked by the Cutty Sark, a clipper that was very fast in the water and carried tea from Asia to England. We walked a couple blocks to a church. Then we headed to the Naval College. By this time it was almost 6:00 and we were meeting the group for dinner at 7:00. So we left the tour to get back to the ship. We stopped in a pub where they let us use the restroom. It gave longitude and latitude on the wall. The longitude was almost zero. I had wanted to see the clock that keeps the world time but we didn’t get there on the tour before we left.

We got on the Uber Boat and it backed its way to the landing for the ship. We made it to dinner in time. It was our last dinner on the ship and we all were there. It was hard to say goodbye to everyone. Then back to the room to get our luggage out. Tomorrow we go to a hotel in London.
Photos: I’m having technical difficulties tonight. I lost all the photos I uploaded from yesterday and today. I will add them tomorrow. Sorry. Time for bed!
