Last Day

It’s hard to believe the time has passed so quickly and it’s time to leave. I am ready to go home. I don’t relish the slog through 2 airports. I start in Zurich, then to Munich , Germany, then to LAX, then a hired car home. I will be picked up by an Uber at 6:45 AM and arrive at LAX at 3:30 PM, which will be 12:30 AM for me. That’s a long day and the worst drawback to foreign travel. I may have said before that this will be my last big trip like this. I’m getting too old to do this type of touring anymore.
‘We slept in this morning with no real plans to do much today. We had breakfast, then I emptied all suitcases, tote bags, etc so I could start over. I really didn’t buy too much this trip, mainly chocolate, which is pretty heavy, and my mugs from all the markets. I still had too much since my bags were full on arrival in Paris.
‘That meant a trip to the post office. I stuffed everything into a good sized tote bag. Betty and I set off on the tram to find the post office. We were told it was at Migrios, a place that had a grocery store, take out area and an eat in cafeteria. We walked through the place and saw no post office. I asked in-the grocery store and an older gentleman told us to go down the street. At least that’s what we thought. So we crossed the street and went looking for a post office. Didn’t find it so we headed back on the other side of the street. We asked a young girl where it was. It was directly across from the Migros!. We didn’t see it because we crossed the street and weren’t looking that way. We entered and waited. Then a lady came in and got a ticket from the machine with a number on it. So we got ours and had to wait. I told the young man I needed to send a box to myself in the US.. He gave me an odd look but got a good sized box and put it together. He told us how much and I asked if he would take a credit card-no cards. I had about half what I needed so Betty pitched and I was able to pay. Then I gave him my bag and he dumped the stuff in the box. So glad I didn’t decide to put dirty underwear in there!!.I had to pay 5 Swiss Francs for customs, fill out the label and we were done. We went across the street to the Migros and had a bowl of soup for lunch. We had no idea what kind it was but it was tasty. Then we hopped on the tram and went back to the hotel.
‘I finished up my packing and relaxed. There was a plan to go see children singing in Christmas trees. I decided I was walked out and would skip it. Everyone else went and said it was very nice. The kids were all ages mostly 8-12 year olds. They had trees arranged so there spaces for the kids to stand between the branches. I have a picture.
‘when they came back, we had dinner in the cafe where we ate last night. I had more great tomato soup and a salad. Rudy figured out our finances because I owed them for the money Betty loaned me at the post office. I had some Canadian money left over from my visit to them in March.` I was able to get rid of some of that.
‘Overall it was a pretty good trip. I just wish I hadn’t been such a drag on the group with all my rests while walking. I’m going to get this problem solved when I get home! They were very patient with me, which I appreciated. I may make one more post with my impressions of the different countries-could be Saturday or maybe Sunday. It all depends on jet lag! I’ve added some more photos from yesterday. I hope they aren’t repeats.
