A little post script
Bet you thought you were done with me…this will really be the last post. It’s 6 days since we arrived home. I’ve had to cook my own food, make my own bed and I’ve done a mountain of laundry. Welcome back to the real world, Marty. I went to have the pacemaker checked. It’s still ticking away, thank heavens. I got a spot on my nose biopsied. You may have noticed a small scab on my nose in some photos. That was what she checked. I’ll find out in a couple weeks if it’s good news or bad.
‘I have been thinking about all the tours we took and how many steps we did. So this afternoon, I added up all my steps from December 21, 2023 when we left until May 11, 2024 when we got home. There were a couple days with zero steps, so my number may be a bit low. I must have not carried my phone on those days. The grand total is 577,743 steps. We were gone 138 days and visited 58 ports. It should have been 60, but weather kept us out of those 2 ports in Southern Africa.
‘Now that I look back on the trip, I realize I have seen so many places I never thought I’d see. They were all interesting in their own way. Some I would return to, most not.
‘The places that surprised me the most were India and Morocco. In India, I expected to see masses of people in poor conditions and cattle everywhere in the streets. I do realize there are places like that in the country but we weren’t taken there. I only remember seeing 3 cows in the 6 days I was there. Our hair raising ride in the pedicab through Old Delhi was the closest we would come to seeing the “real India”. The Taj Mahal was a highlight of the entire trip. Even with 10,000 of my closest friends there, it was still majestic. Spending sunrise there on Easter morning was very special.
I don’t know what I was expecting in Morocco. I found the people to be very warm and friendly. I guess I had visions of all the old movies with spies and intrigue everywhere. All 3 cities we visited were beautiful. We walked through the casbahs, or older parts of the cities and I found the narrow streets and alleyways fascinating.
Bunny and I both regret not getting to see Egypt and the pyramids, and Israel. Don’t know if we’ll ever get there now. That part of the world is always having some sort of problems.
I have made memories that will last the rest of my life. And I have a few thousand photos to remind me in case I forget. I’ll put in a few of my favorites.
