Bali, Day 1
We docked around noon. I went up to watch the ship come into port. It was already pretty hot. We got off the ship to go to the nearby markets around the pier There was a Balinesian band playing and young girls dressed to dance but we didn’t see them dancing. There were several vendors across the street but not selling anything we wanted. We crossed the street to another group of vendors. Nothing there either. As we went back in the cruise terminal there was a vendor with some nicer clothes. Bunny bought a shirt.
‘We were pretty wiped out with the heat so we came back to the ship. After a rest we went to a lounge and played Hand and Foot for an hour. Then back to the room to get ready for our evening tour. We left at 6:30 and drove through rush hour traffic to a Hyatt Regency resort. It was pretty nice. The dining area was covered but had no walls. The food was good, so they tell me. I had rice, chicken and a roll. I don’t want to get sick before our private tour on Sunday. After dinner we moved to an open area at the end of the restaurant. They were moving chairs around so we grabbed two right in front. The show was interesting. First about 20 men came out and danced, then sat and did chants. After awhile two female dancers came out and danced around the circle. Then another male dancer who was supposed to be the king, we think. Then the bad guy came out with a mask on. It looked like a wolf’s mask. Then another female dancer who danced like a fairy. There was some fighting between the 3 male characters. The king finally won the girl. It was a good show.
Tomorrow we go to a market and a Hindu temple. We have an early start so maybe we will not get so beastly hot! It will be for me. it Won’t be really bad til late morning. We have to have our shoulders and knees covered for the temple, so I will be hot to start.
‘Photos are of the Dancers mostly.
