Equator
Good afternoon from the mid Pacific Ocean. We are traveling south on the way to Bora Bora. IT’s 4:00 PM here in the middle of nowhere. We will be crossing the equator at 6:00 PM this evening. The captain said in his daily repot we might feel a bump. I didn’t feel anything the last two times I crossed so I don’t think we”ll feel it. There was a ceremony this morning. Any crew member who hadn’t crossed came out, was put on trial, judged guilty and had to go in the drink(pool). The judges were the captain, hotel manager and another senior officer. It was narrated by the cruise director. After the crew any one who was a Pollywog, never crossed the equator, could jump in and follow that with a shot of Aquavit. They then became a shellback Two of our Canadian friends did. They are in the pictures below.
‘Last night we had dinner in one of the two specialty restaurants. It’s called The Chef’s Table. They have a set menu with wine pairings for each course. We had a Nexican dinner.. The first course was a very small glass with a spiced broth. It was good. Next came the tortilla soup. It was even better. Then came the palate cleanser-a slush of tequila and tangerine. It was a bit much for me but Bunny ate all of hers. We had a white wine with the first two courses. Then they had a red wine for the entree which was beef cheeks. Never thought I’d say I ate beef cheek but I did. It was actually quite tender and tasty. It was about 3/4 inch thick, round and 2 inches in diameter. About the size of a cow’s cheek. Our dessert was what looked like a funnel cake with a dollop of sorbet.
‘I am looking forward to tonight’s dinner. We’re going to the other specialty restaurant, called Manfredi’s. It’s an Italian menu and you can choose your courses. I have my eye on the chicken Parmesan. One of the appetizers is spaghetti bolognese. I will be very full after this meal!
We are really enjoying the art class. I’ll include some photos in the next post. Since Tahiti is French, I will say a bientot. See you soon.
