We didn’t win
Today was the last of our 7 days at sea. We had the judging of the Make a memento of the cruise contest. Since we met all our friends through Trivia, we put together a trivia memento. We had everyone’s photo in the group, the assistant cruise director, Michael, who tortures us with fiendish questions and our Cruise Director also on our board. It was small but a nice entry. We are called The Village People because when we started in Ft Lauderdale, we had 10 people in our group when the limit was six. Michael said to us, “ Sometimes it takes a village”, so we’ve been the Village People ever since. There were some pretty good entries, an elephant made from bent wire hangers, the Marina Bay Tower in Singapore, the Sydney Opera House, a 3 ft tall giraffe, a Tuk Tuk and a mobile hung from a Viking umbrella. The elephant won. It was a fun judging ceremony held on the big pool deck.
We also had a visit to Null Island, which doesn’t exist. It’s the point where the equator crosses the Greenwich Meridian. I had my compass on my phone and got a screenshot of it reading 0 N, 0 E. I was so excited to get the shot, I texted it to my sons. I didn’t realize all my icons were wiggling and I hit the text icon. Poof, it was gone! I spent a nervous day trying to find it. Finally I realized I could Google how to find it. I did and got it back.. That was a big relief There is supposed to be a buoy marking the spot but we couldn’t find it. They lowered one of the tenders and took photos of everyone out on the starboard side of the ship. Another afternoon filled with an activity.
We had our Five Crowns card tournament over the last 7 days. Bunny was the leader for a couple days but fell to 8th place. I was never in contention and ended up in 18th place. There were 24 people playing. It was something to keep up our interest over the week. It has been pretty hot so we’ve enjoyed our time at the pool at the back of the ship. We can sit at tables in the shade and cool off in the infinity pool. I had bought a bag of potato chips in Australia and we never opened them. Yesterday Betty said she really wanted potato chips. So today we had chips after our swim.
Tomorrow we will set foot on solid ground in Dakar, Senegal. We’ve signed up for a safari. Hope we see some animals. It won’t be so hot, only 80 and humidity in the 40% range. That’s wonderful.
Photos: cloudy morning from the balcony, now that I’m looking at photos, I think I already told you about Null Island. Sorry to repeat myself., me in a Captain’s hat, the big TV screen on the pool deck, our entry in the contest, the giraffe, the elephant and the TukTuk.

Great picture of you – have a great Safari – stay safe
These all great pictures! The shot of the compass where the equator crosses the Greenwich Meridian is so cool. Can’t wait until Tom sees it.
And, the picture of you with the captain’s hat is precious!! You can tell from all the entries that everyone had such a great time on the cruise. See you in May,
Tina
